IWATA Toshichi (1893–1980), his son Hisatoshi (1925–1994) and Hisatoshi’s wife Itoko (1922–2008) were glass artists who made groundbreaking contributions to modern Japanese art glass. The Iwatas elevated glass from everyday object to art by harnessing vividly colored glass to explore bold designs informed by traditional Japanese palettes and forms. This exhibition presents around 100 outstanding examples from the large collection of Iwata Glass held by Machida City Museum.
