Temporary Exhibitions

Resonance: SEKIYA Fuki and OYAMADA Jiro

Exhibition period 28 October - 24 December 2017

This exhibition offers unique opportunity to see the encounter of two artists who might not know each other during their lifetime.

SEKIYA Fuki (1903-1969) was born in Nasu, Tochigi. Although her works show her exceptional abilities in creating colors, forms and expression of her emotion, she never accepted offers to show her works in public. Had been kept by her sister in law for 40 years, her works were discovered by a curator of the museum.

OYAMADA Jiro (1914-1991) was born in China and brought up by his ground parents in Otawara, Tochigi. After studying art, he showed his works widely and highly appreciated as they expose the human condition in the time after the war. Although there appears many monstrous figures in his works, the colors in his works sparkle like jewels.
