Oil on plywood
The beauty of a unique harmony produced by means of a variety of forms and styles of painting.
다양한 모양과 묘사 방법에 따라 창출되는 독특한 하모니의 아름다움
The corners of the red color plane are rounded off as if defying the rectangular board. There are hieroglyph-like lines, spirals, and rhythmical straight lines. They may seem scattered at first sight, but they create a unique harmony with the coarse texture of the plywood. It is not an elegant, classical harmony created with hands and brush but an atonal noise produced by the plywood holding out against the edge of the drill. Among the works by Saito, who consistently pursued spatial composition employing plywood, this example alludes deeply to the structure of a painting.
