Anyone interested in motorcycles would understand that this is made quite faithfully to a real motorcycle. The engine and instruments are made with precision. No one looking at this work would think it is a real motorcycle, but then, they probably wonder what it is made of. To put it plainly, this work is made of paper and is much lighter than a real motorcycle.
In the 1960s, Shinohara Ushio produced works involving intense performances such as “boxing paintings,” which were painted by immersing gloves in the paint and beating them against the canvas as if boxing. Later on, he moved his base to New York, but, as evident in this work, his tendency for energetic work remained unchanged.
