The paintbrush moves strenuously around to produce innumerous touches and strokes (linear forms produced by the brush moving back and forth or in one direction). Each one of these touches and strokes differ in length and they appear to be heading in separate directions. The coloring is extremely manifold with the main overall tone of yellow, orange, brown, and green tightened with different shades of blue. Looking more carefully, you will notice that there are different shades of color within the touches and strokes and that whereas the paint is applied thinly in some parts, elsewhere, there are densely painted “thick” parts.

“To paint a picture” is to control such diverse elements collectively and the artist Osakabe Jin was blessed with rich talent in that respect. Many of his works are views of nature.
