A flower basket inspired by a fountain at the height of summer.

Thinly sliced madake bamboo is woven in the yoko ajiro-ami weave. The weave becomes coarser towards the top of the basket. The tabane-ami weave on the outside is done by bending bamboo tied in a bundle and spreading it open towards the top. The design opening upwards reminds us of fountains or growing plants. A subtle sense of tension and a placid vital force form a splendid harmony in this work. Katsushiro, who works in the northern part of Tochigi, observes nature living surrounded by richly natural settings and incorporates the essence of such observations into his works. He was designated as a holder of an important intangible cultural asset (Living National Treasure for bamboo crafts) in 2005.
